The Fishing

With fresh stock in on Friday 23rd, Churn Pool fished well over the weekend with Shogo and Bob Hicks amongst others landing some beautiful rainbows and missing plenty more.  Today (26th April) fished exceptionally well with Stan Kerslake and Ian White landing their limit with the bonus of a fantastic brownie on the bank also. Mac Lowe also returned to form with three rainbows for the freezer. It was great to see Darwin Turner back on the bank this evening and even better to see four fish landed with Diawl Bachs and a Muddler.

Cheltenham & Gloucester Fly Dressers Guild:

Irish Lough Style Flies

Tuesday 4th May Cheesrollers Pub, Shurdington, Nr Cheltenham.
7.30 for a 8.00pm start.

Those of you who are regulars to the fishery may have spotted some legendary casting coming Steve Cole. If you are lucky, you might have even seen his fly box!

Steve will be giving a tying demo & talk at the Cheltenham & Gloucester Fly Dressers Guild at the Cheersrollers pub in Shurdington on 4th May.  With many years of fishing behind him and countless trips to Ireland to sample their trout waters, we’d count Steve as an authority when it comes to trout flies wherever he fishes.

BBQ !!!

On May 1st, we will be having a BBQ for our Members and Day Ticket customers and should kick off at about 12.00.

Make sure you bring some degreaser if you are fishing in the afternoon. It’s no good tying on a leader line with sausage fingers !!!

Saturday 10th April

The bright sunlight really pushed the fish deep into the water, but Saturday saw a a return to form with Shogo managing five 3lb rainbows on a Marabou Damsel with a few others catching here and there. People had to work hard for their fish and a few unfortunately blanked, but the evening saw a good rise to which Steve Wrigley tempted one with a Cats Whisker before changing to an Emerger and landing a beautiful rainbow of 3lb 7oz.

Easter Weekend

Well, it looks like the weather won’t be quite as bad as predicted earlier in the week so we might have some suitable fly fishing conditions this weekend. We had a small top up of rainbows today (2-3 lb fish)  and will stock again on 9th April with about 350lbs of rainbows with a few browns mixed in.

Nick Hall managed to bag up this week with his signature buzzer closely followed by Mike Waring tempting the fish with his trusty lure patterns.

Anyone wanting to get started with a bit of fly dressing or further their current knowledge may be interested in the North Wiltshire Fly Fishing Club who meet at the Wroughton Working Mens Club every Thursday evening or the Cheltenham and Gloucester Fly Dressers Guild which meet at The Cheese Rollers in Shurdington near Cheltenham on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month.  A little further from home (from Cirencester anyway) is the Pheasant Fly Fishers Club in Chippenham.
